MaxCDN Review | is it good CDN choice ?

MaxCDN is “Content Delivery Network” providing company that offers killer CDN service with 24/7/365 Customer Support for excellent price. There is a relationship between the distance of your server and user location as it impacts on your site loading time. The further your site server is placed from your users’ location, the longer it takes to load your site on the users’ machines. So in order to access your site faster from different places of the world, you need to use lots of servers around the world.

Seems Difficult ? Don’t worry !! MaxCDN does all this for you by providing a strong network of servers across the globe.

What is a CDN ?

A content delivery network or content distribution network (CDN) is a large distributed system of servers deployed in multiple data centers across the Internet. The goal of a CDN is to serve content to end-users with high availability and high performance. CDN servers across the world have a copy of your website and its small files, so when a visitor loads your website, the CDN delivers your website’s files from the closest server to them. The further the physical distance between the server and the user the slower the website becomes. So by serving from a closer location, the speed of the website increases.

Benefits of MaxCDN

Batch changing URL of post images in wordpress

For blogger who self-hosts the WordPress blog publishing system on a web hosting server with own registered domain name, sometimes, you may decide to reorganize the blog link URL to make it tidier or to reflect new focus or theme of the blog. You may decide to change URL of your site as well. But changing URL can cause some issues. You may face broken images in all your previous posts since you just changed URL of site but didn’t update the URLs for images already added to posts.

e.g Before changes, your wordpress URL was: & your images URL were like:
And After Change, your site URL is: but your all posts are showing images from

It’s not possible to correct URL of all images by editing each post since it can take too much time based on volume of site. A better approach is to Change URLs of all the images collectively by SQL Querying the database. Let’s see how easy it this below:

NOTE: We will be using SQL statements based on MySQL replace() function to modify the database. To run SQL queries, you need to login to MySQL database that houses WordPress tables via phpMyAdmin or login to the DB server and run MySQL client as root. If you don’t have access to it, then you can also do this from your wordpress admin dashboard by installing a plugin: Find & Replace ( )

Go to MySQL Query mode & use the following SQL commands to fix broken links to blog in all WordPress posts and pages:

-- MySQL Query

UPDATE wp_posts SET post_content  =
replace(post_content, '', 'http:/');

-- see documentation of replace function for more understanding

The above SQL Query will replace all the links for with in post_content (DB Table that stores all posts content) & hopefully this will fix broken images links as well since now those images URLs will be changed to new domain.

Caution: Before making changes to database & run queries, make sure to backup your database because these changes will be permanent and can’t be undone. Dont forget to export your database from phpmyadmin as .sql

WordPress: Change Color of specific menu Tab in Navigation menu

Complexity: A recent problem i faced was to change the color of only one tab in navigation menu bar of wordpress. I was using Ubermenu MegaMenu plugin but that didn’t provide any option for this. So i did it myself. You may also face such situation so following is smart solution to do that.

Let’s say you create a menu item “HOME” in your wordpress menu. When you create it in wordpress, a specific ID and Class is assigned to that menu item like:

<li id="menu-item-1704" class="menu-item menu-item-type-post_type menu-item-1704"><a href="">Home</a></li>

WordPress always assigns each “menu-item”  a unique ID Number.  So open stylesheet of your theme that styles menu, usually style.css or otherwise open header.php  file of your theme and add following code between head :

For sake of example, i have used minimum css but you can add other menu properties as well for #menu-item-1704 to extend it’s style.

Another problem you may face is to find ID of your menu item. To find out id of your menu item that you want to style differently, go to Appearance > Menus.  Hover your mouse on menu item tab:

See the URL that will appear in browser status bar, it will look like:

Here 377 is menu item ID.

So once you find the menu item ID, you can easily style that specific menu item as i mentioned above.

Installing and Configuring MySQL 32 bit ODBC driver on a 64 bit Operating System.

Complexity: Recently i was working on a C# Project that was 32-bit application. My Machine is 64-bit so i was facing problem while using MySQL ODBC 64-Bit Driver with my application there’s type mismatch and project was giving runtime error. I tried to use 32 bit driver on my PC and managed to get application working and get rid of “architecture mismatch error” that’s common while using it, after following the below solution.

What happens is that you have a 64 bit operating system, which usually comes with a more modern equipment, and specially a 64 bit server OS, which is most likely to be the case, and you need to install an ODBC driver that would work with a 32 bit application.

If you install a 64 bit ODBC driver, it will be listed and configurable in “ODBC Data Source Administrator” (Start\Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools\Data Source (ODBC)), but it will not be able to work with 32 bit application.

On the other hand, if you try to install the 32 bit driver, the system will not recognise it, and it will not appear in your default Data Sources (ODBC) inside the control panel, so you will not be able to configure it and connect to MySQL.

THERE IS A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM – In many places you will read that this is IMPOSSIBLE – WHICH IS NOT TRUE. What you need to do is the following:

    • Download and install the 32 bit MySQL driver, regardless of the fact that you are using a 64 bit OS.It will install the files in the following place (path):C:\Program Files (x86)\MySQL\Connector ODBC 5.1
    • Make sure that you are installing ODBC Driver Version 5.1, because for 5.2 it doesn’t work properly. Use this link:
    • Instead of following the usual path via the Control Panel (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools\Data Sources (ODBC) ) , where the 32 bit driver will not be recognised, YOU NEED TO FIND AND USE THE FOLLOWING PATH:

Open odbcad32.exe and you will find 32-bit driver there. Use that to create DSN or whatever your objective is.

Here you will be able to see your 32 bit ODBC driver and configure it to connect with the MySQL database, in the same way as you would do on a 32 bit system. That was all about installing and configuring MySQL ODBC 32-bit driver on 64-bit PC. Stay tuned for my next post on using MySQL ODBC driver with C# Application.

Easy way of creating 2-Dimensional Array in C++

An array keeps track of multiple pieces of information in linear order, a one-dimensional list. However, the data associated with certain systems (a digital image, a board game, Matrices etc.) lives in two dimensions. To visualize this data, we need a multi-dimensional data structure, that is, a multi-dimensional array.

Infact a 2-dimensional array is really nothing more than an array of arrays. Following is the c++ code for creating a 2-Dimensional Dynamic Array. In this example, i have implemented only for INT but functionality can be enhanced for multiple types using C++ Templates.

int rows,columns;

int **dynamicArray = 0;

//memory allocation for elements of rows

dynamicArray = new int *[ROWS] ;

//memory allocated for elements of each column.
for( int i = 0 ; i < ROWS ; i++ )
    dynamicArray[i] = new int[COLUMNS];

//free the allocated memory

for( int i = 0 ; i < ROWS ; i++ )
    delete [] dynamicArray[i] ;

delete [] dynamicArray ;

Besides using Pointers, there any other ways as well for creating dynamic multi-dimensional arrays e.g Vector of Vector Array or using Vector Wrapper Class but i think that “Pointers” Method is easiest one.
